Sue Barclay

Craft 1 Group Leader
Area: Craft

After graduating from art school with a degree in ceramics, I spent a year and a half as a lifeguard and swimming teacher for Aberdeen Leisure. Both of these things eventually led me to Ecas where I had the very enjoyable job of swimming group leader for 13 years, during which time I met many wonderful people, worked alongside some great lifeguards, and witnessed some amazing achievements.

More recently I have taken on the position of Craft 1 group leader. This is a really enjoyable group to work with. They have made me very welcome and been very patient with me as I learn the ropes and try to figure out where everything is kept!  I came to this group with a background of having worked at Garvald Edinburgh for the past 17 years. My work there has been mainly in the pottery, but I have experience in all of the other craft workshops such as textiles, stained glass and joinery.  I now work two days a week as Workshop Leader in the pottery workshop.  I hope to bring some of these crafts to the Ecas group.

My hobbies include yoga, running, reading, baking, crochet and knitting.  I live in the Borders with my partner, four children and one dog.

What clients say about Craft

The Friday group is a very important part of the week. I meet friends, have fun and can be creative.

Lesley

We have a very supportive tutor. She gives us a lot of scope to do painting, art and also pottery. Being part of the craft group is so rewarding.
